MISSIONS

• Summer Opportunity to Serve July 28 - August 3

Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors!

The Mission Team has an opportunity to serve with Brethren Disaster Ministries this summer in Lumberton, South Carolina, from July 28 - August 3. This area was hit by flooding/storms and caused major damage. This is a service/working trip and not a relational trip like Guatemala, so prayerfully consider the opportunity. Service during this trip will mainly entail working on rebuilding homes that were damaged.

The cost of the trip is $350.00 per person and needs to be paid in full by June 1.

We are only able to take 12 students, so they all must be 15 or older at the time of the trip, and they must complete an application. Please see Mrs. Fox for the paperwork, and email valerie.fox@west-mont.org with any questions you may have.

Winterim Guatemala Trip

Our high school students had opportunity to hit the mission field in Guatemala during our Winterim Progam this week! Thank you for all of your support with their fundraising efforts this year, and please be in prayer for the team and the people they will serve and point to Jesus!

Infinito's Fundraiser • May 16 from 4:00 - 9:00 PM

Please join us for a Mission Team Fundraiser at Infinito's Pizza, located at 222 Schuylkill Rd, Phoenixville, PA 19460. The pizza buffet prices are as follows:

Adults - $6.99, Children 6-10 - $5.99, Children 5 and under - $2.99, Drinks - $2.49

We hope to see you all there!

Bike & Hike • May 4

POOL DISCOUNTS • SANATOGA SWIM CLUB

The Sanatoga Swim Club will be opening for the summer on Saturday, May 25! For more information about special Christian school membership rates, please go to https://www.sanatogaswimclub.com/schools. Sanatoga Swim Club offers a 25 meter pool, a baby pool, two diving boards, night swimming, and a snack bar. They can also host family and church events; a large pavilion is available for groups of up to 400 people. In addition to swimming, Sanatoga Swim Club offers a spacious property that can accommodate up to 1000 people. The property includes basketball, tennis, and sand volleyball courts, as well as two playgrounds with picnic tables throughout the premises, surrounded by beautiful woods. We would like to invite our school family to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to join a faith-based swim club for the summer, or simply use their facilities for your next event! Some ideas that families and churches are currently implementing include:

  • Graduation Parties

  • Regular church picnics with special pricing for your specific activities.

  • Sunday service in the large pavilion, followed by a baptism and/or a church picnic and swimming.

  • Weekday evening Bible study, and small group or youth group activity and swim.

PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

We are well underway with events and enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. If you have a child turning three, four, or five years of age by the first day of the next school year, and you would like to register him or her for preschool or kindergarten, please email admissionswca@west-mont.org to be added to a list to receive current information for upcoming events and deadlines pertaining to enrollment. Also, if you know anyone who may be interested in exploring what West-Mont has to offer for preschool or kindergarten, please email their contact information (with permission), and we will reach out to them with details in the coming months.

• Kindergarten Readiness Workshop - May 2 at 7:00 PM

We have coordinated a Kindergarten Readiness Workshop on May 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Elementary Gym. This event is for current and prospective parents, as well as families from the community to learn more about kindergarten preparation during the summer months.   Please follow this link to a document detailing the evening for your reference, and follow this link to additional information about visiting our school. We would appreciate your assistance with promoting this opportunity by sharing the information with your church family and your local community. Please feel free to print, distribute, and post the flyers in your church facility or in the community, with permission. If you would like a supply of these forms to be available for pick up at our school office, or to be sent home with your student, please reply to this email with the number you would like, and arrangements will be made according to your preference

This is a great opportunity to meet other WCA mothers and fellowship as you volunteer. Please bring a packed lunch to enjoy, gardening/trimming tools, and gloves. We will be touching up the main flower beds by weeding, trimming, and raking, as well as sweeping the front porches and adding spring decorations to them. If you have a block of time to contribute to this effort, please contact Jackie Smith at jsdspa@comcast.net or (610)334-5789 (call/text), but it is not necessary for participation. We hope to see you all there!

We will be presenting monthly community service projects, so we can all pitch in together and help our neighbors in need. The next date is coming up at the end of April, and involves Hickory Park. Spring has Sprung!

By Hunter Fegan

WCA Senior & Wellness Intern

Finally, Spring is here! With it comes exciting and new opportunities. For starters, you can kick off the change of season with the classic “spring cleaning.” This is a great opportunity to give a fresh start to your home. An important hint to be successful in your spring clean is to take it one room, or even one closet at a time. Starting off small allows you to see your progress, and have access to more hours in the day to tackle other tasks. This will eliminate overwhelming feelings. For example, make it your goal to clean out a designated area, and then treat yourself to a healthy snack of fresh fruits or veggies. Also, set a goal to make one new recipe a week based on a fresh fruit or vegetable that is available. Look to incorporate fish into your weekly meals, as it provides key nutrients for the body. Personally, my favorite spring opportunity is enjoying the beautiful weather outside. Every now and then, plan a day trip to a local park with the family to enjoy a picnic or walk together. Take advantage of these fantastic spring days, because summer is just around the corner!

BIKE & HIKE

May 4 at 10:00 AM

Our Annual Bike & Hike event is scheduled on May 4, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Riverfront Park. We will start and end at the Rotary Pavilion, and you are free to bike, walk, or run on the Schuylkill River Trail for 5 or 10 miles. We are hosting this as a FREE Wellness Event, so NO SIGN-UP OR RSVP NEEDED! Please follow this link to the flyer for more information.

Bike Rides with Mr. Bowman

Every summer, Mr. Bowman coordinates one or two bike rides per week with family and friends of WCA. Emails will go out regularly with times, dates, locations, and difficulty levels of the rides. The descriptions in these emails will allow each family to decide which rides they are able to attend. There will be rail-trail/road rides from 10-30 miles, and mountain bike rides from 5-12 miles, all at different paces. If you would like to be on the mailing list for ride information, email Mr. Bowman at phillip.bowman@west-mont.org. Being on the mailing list does not commit you to any rides.
