Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth.

West-Mont parent and registered nurse, Christine Russell, hosted a Norwex party last month led by a 1999 WCA graduate. This event was an effort to get as many EnviroCloths donated to the school as possible. If you were not able to attend the party, you are still welcome to place an order through the website. Please follow this link to browse the catalog, and follow this link to place an order.

We are very excited to inform you that WCA has the opportunity to host a group of 36 8th and 9th grade students from Japan, on a short-term basis from March 20-27, 2019! Having international students in our student body provides a rich, cultural experience for our own students, and an opportunity for the international students to experience the love of Christ through our school family. In order to make our international program a success, we are looking for short-term host families who are willing to bring the mission field into their home, and provide a loving, caring environment for these students as they visit the United States. Qualified short-term host families will receive a stipend to offset the cost of meals and transportation, and school busing can be arranged in some districts along with carpooling assistance. If you have any questions or would like to host a student, please contact Rosanne Kelsall, Group Director of BWI, at rkelsallinternational@gmail.com or (215)206-9815.

JARED BOX TOY DRIVE •  December 3 - 21

The entire WCA community has a great opportunity to bless and encourage many children this December! Our National Honor Society invites everyone to participate by bringing small, inexpensive toys to contribute as part of the Jared Box Project. These donations provide a special diversion for young patients in emergency rooms, patient rooms, surgical centers, and clinics as they receive chemotherapy and other medical treatments. Jared Boxes bring smiles and laughter, and lift the spirits of children in the hospital.

A Jared Box is a plastic storage box filled with small gifts, toys, games, and fun activities. The items can be geared toward various age groups from infant to teen. National Honor Society members will be sorting the toys and creating boxes of items selected for a specific age and gender. The boxes will then be delivered to a local hospital.

Please help our NHS by donating toys, activities, games, and other small goodies (nothing edible). Contributions can be placed in designated boxes in the Elementary lobby and MS/HS lobby. The more we collect, the more children we can uplift this Christmas season!

Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve others; please have all donations to the school by Friday, December 21, at 3:00 p.m.

Christmas Break - No School!

Healthy Holiday Eating

Many would say that their favorite part of Thanksgiving and Christmas is the delicious food. As the holidays quickly approach, here are some small tips to help you eat healthier over the next month:

  • Eat breakfast – Eating a small meal in the morning gives you control over your appetite later in the day, and does not leave you starving by the time the big meal comes around.

  • Make at least one lighter dish – If you are hosting the meal or bringing a few dishes to share, make classic dishes with healthy substitutes. For example, use fat-free sour cream or yogurt in mashed potatoes and casseroles.

  • Fill your plate – Load your plate with dishes you may only get once a year, do not waste your appetite on foods you have all year around. Also, skip seconds; leftovers taste better the next day when you only had one plate the day before.

  • Drink water – Staying hydrated is especially important when eating large meals for a few days in a row.
