Thank you to all who have participated in our various fundraisers so far this year for the Booster Club, Fine Arts Parents Club, Mission Team, Student Council, and WPC. Through their efforts and your support of them, they have raised approximately $8300 for their various groups.

We are very excited to inform you that WCA has the opportunity to host a group of 36 8th and 9th grade students from Japan, on a short-term basis from March 20-27, 2019! Having international students in our student body provides a rich, cultural experience for our own students, and an opportunity for the international students to experience the love of Christ through our school family. In order to make our international program a success, we are looking for short-term host families who are willing to bring the mission field into their home, and provide a loving, caring environment for these students as they visit the United States. Qualified short-term host families will receive a stipend to offset the cost of meals and transportation, and school busing can be arranged in some districts along with carpooling assistance. If you have any questions or would like to host a student, please contact Rosanne Kelsall, Group Director of BWI, at rkelsallinternational@gmail.com or (215)206-9815.

We are already preparing for events and enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. If you have a child turning three, four, or five years of age by the first day of the next school year, and you would like to register him or her for preschool or kindergarten, please email admissionswca@west-mont.org to be added to a list to receive current information for upcoming events and deadlines pertaining to enrollment. Also, if you know anyone who may be interested in exploring what West-Mont has to offer for preschool or kindergarten, please email their contact information (with permission), and we will reach out to them with details in the coming months.

Wellness Corner

By Hunter Fegan, WCA Senior, Wellness Intern, and Student Council President

Many people set goals at the start of the year to build healthy habits and refine budgeting skills. Do you need some ideas? No problem! Here are some to help you move forward:

  • Exercise - There is no need to feel pressured into getting that solid hour in at the gym every night. Start out slow and look for little ways in your daily life to change, such as walking up a flight of stairs rather than using an elevator, or parking a little farther away and walking a few extra yards. The important thing to remember is that every little bit counts!

  • Eating - To improve or implement healthier habits, try adding a fresh fruit or vegetable as a side to your meals. Also plan to make several of your weekly meals from scratch to increase the nutritional value of your food.

  • Budgeting - For those who choose to use a card for payment, look to change things up by using cash on a regular basis. Handing over the actual value of an item in cash tends to allow the buyer to have a last-minute debate to determine if it is truly needed. Another useful tip is to plan out weekly budgets to provide goals to work toward. This will ensure that expenses will not exceed income. To learn more about budgeting strategies, RSVP to attend our budgeting workshop, hosted by West-Mont Parent, Mr. Tim Russell, CFP on January 22, at 7:00 PM.
