Be sure to attend as a parent if your younger children want to participate after school. An invitation will be mailed to your church this week, and an email with more information will be sent as well. Please join us on Wednesday, October 10, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. as we work together to prepare our campus for the fun and festivities planned during Spirit Week and our Homecoming Event! This is a great opportunity to meet other WCA mothers and fellowship as you volunteer. Please bring a packed lunch to enjoy; we will have some gardening tools and gloves on hand, but if you are able to bring your own that would be helpful as well. We will be touching up the main flower beds by weeding, trimming, and raking, as well as sweeping the front porches and adding fall decorations to them. If you have a block of time to contribute to this effort, please contact Jackie Smith at jsdspa@comcast.net or (610)334-5789 (call/text), but it is not necessary for participation. We hope to see you all there!

Fall Weeding and Trimming

We are in need of volunteers to assist our ground and maintenance staff with weeding and trimming our campus this fall. If you have a block of time in your schedule to lend to this project, please contact melissa.newton@west-mont.orgto coordinate where and when to focus your efforts.

2018-19 Serve Day Opportunities

We now have a Serve Day Parent Ambassador! Yvonne Westlake will be locating and assisting with the coordination of Serve Days for our West-Mont community. She will search for and develop service opportunities in the tri-county area that we can plug into as a school community. These opportunities will allow West-Mont to serve the surrounding area, and bless others as we are being greatly blessed; this is our responsibility as Christ-followers! Please keep your eyes open for more details to come on Serve Day opportunities! Please contact Yvonne directly at westlake6604@gmail.com if you have any ideas regarding how we might serve; this can be any free event that we can connect with that might be a local need, a church activity that could use more hands, or even a family that could use some assistance with something. We look forward to serving with you all soon!

October 15 at 6:00 PM in the MS/HS Conference Room

The West-Mont Parent Council (WPC) is an opportunity for WCA parents to bless our school. They do so by organizing special luncheons for teachers, beautifying our buildings and property, providing much-needed items for teachers and students, and much more. They raise money through low-pressure fundraisers, and have helped support the WCA Mission Team, contributed to a Gas Fund that helps defray the cost of field trips, and purchased items for teachers and staff that would not be covered by the budget.

Meetings are held as needed during the school year in the MS/HS Conference Room for a time of devotion, prayer, fellowship, and business.  The WPC would love for you to be a part of this opportunity to be a blessing to our teachers and students.

Many Blessings,

The Advancement Department

Wellness Corner

Teen Exercise

Be sure to encourage your students to exercise on a regular basis, and make it part of their daily routine. The following are some interesting facts to motivate us as parents to do so:

  • Nearly half of teens ages 12-21 years are not vigorously active on a regular basis.

  • The number of overweight teens in America is increasing because they don't get enough exercise.

  • Overweight teens are more likely to be overweight adults, which makes them more likely to develop heart disease and high blood pressure.

  • Teens who are physically active have higher self-esteem and experience less anxiety and depression than inactive youth.

  • Even during physical education classes, students often spend more time standing around than exercising.
