At Alliance Christian School District, we know that developing the mind alone is not enough. There are plenty of people walking around that know what is right and wrong, know what God wants for us, can articulate a Biblical Worldview, and do not have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. It is our deep hope that each of our students would develop an authentic and life long relationship with Jesus.

The staff at Alliance Christian understands that students do not develop this relationship by chance. It is not enough for us to lecture students on what they need to do. Instead, we believe that we must be intentional about creating venues for our staff to build relationships with students in order to develop opportunities for them to speak into their lives. As such, we do not simply view the supporting programs we offer, such as athletics, theater, and elective classes, as only something fun for our students. Rather, we see them as among the chief venues for our staff to build authentic relationships with our students. Authentic relationships in turn build the trust that is needed for our staff to effectively disciple students through the more formal venues of chapel, mentor groups, and conferences.

WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE​
AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS
If you were to sit back and think about the people that had the largest impact on your life, one thing that would be common to each of them was a strong and authentic relationship. You knew that person cared for you, spoke truth into your life, and wanted to see you grow. Most likely, that person was someone you met doing something you enjoyed, whether it was music, science class, sports, scouting, or something else. Over time, doing a shared activity built that relationship to the place that your mentor could begin to speak truth into your life.
Throughout our schools, you will find that students have opportunities to go beyond the core curriculum and explore things like the arts, music, theater, athletics, elective classes, activities, and more. This opportunities serve as some of the chief venues we have to build strong relationships with our students. Additionally, our small class sizes mean our teachers and staff have the opportunity to build relationships with students for years.
MENTORING PROCESS
When looking for the best model for effective mentoring and discipleship, one needs to look no further than the New Testament. Throughout the book of Acts and the Epistles, we see a model develop based on three key relationships each of us need to have. First, we all need a Paul in our lives, someone older, that has already walked the path we are on and can point us in the right direction. Next, we need a Barnabas, someone our own age that works with us. Finally, we need a Timothy, someone that is younger than us that we can point in the right direction.
Formal Mentoring

With strong relationships, our teachers and staff can effectively mentor students. Through the Cultivate program, our teachers and staff are specifically trained to bring mentoring techniques into the Christian School in both the classroom and in activities. Additionally, students have the ability to receive one-on-one mentoring with our staff.

LEADERSHIP LEGACY
One of the key marks of an effective disciple is the ability to take what has been learned and use it to help someone else on their own walk with Christ. One of the key marks of an effective discipleship program is that students have opportunity to disciple others while they are in the program. Through our Leadership Legacy program, our high school students are taught how to grow disciples and then partnered with our Elementary students in a “Big Buddy” mentoring relationship.
